Getting Started with Digi Scrapbooking

I've had a number of people who love to paper scrapbook ask me the best way to get started with digital scrapbooking.

I'm not going to reinvent the wheel when it comes to tutorials - rather, I'd like to point you in the direction of some great resources!

First of all, you need some software.

Options include Adobe Photoshop Elements (trial version available), Corel Programs (trials are linked), GIMP, and Paint. There are others out there. But you'll want to stay away from some specifically scrapbooking programs - often they won't let you use your own elements - no sense being limited when it comes to digi-scrapping!

Most of the programs listed above include versions for Macs - just take a look - your best bet for getting started is to download a trial - see if you like it. And try another one - until you find something that works best for you and your budget.

Then you need a kit. I've got a free mini in my personal store, and one in my Moo Two store (changes monthly). RAKScraps also offer a monthly mega kit for free. Why am I suggesting these free options? Because I know that once you're hooked - you'll come back to me! :)

Then you need to get started.

Here are some great "getting started" tutorials.

Create a Digital Scrapbooking Layout
Using GIMP for Digital Scrapbooking
Using PS Elements for Digital Scrapbooking
Using other programs for Digital Scrapbooking
Misty Cato Tutorials - PSE and PS

Trust me, the only way you can learn to digi scrap is to just get started and play with the elements! Your ability and style will change and develop quickly. I just completed a scrap lifting challenge (where you take an old layout and make it new). I was shocked how much I've changed in two months! Check it out:

In the meantime, play! And you can sign up to get a free kit from me (before May 23, 2010).
